How does outlook 2003 connect to exchange 2010

Issue: Each mailbox or shared calendar that is opened in Outlook actually opens two or more network connections back to the Exchange servers. Exchange introduced a concept called Throttling Policy that prevents the email service from being bogged down due to excessive connections by any one user. Outlook doesn't support the Exchange autodiscover service. Issue : Outlook will automatically detect when a user's mailbox has moved to the Exchange side.

If the user is logged in, they get a prompt to exit and restart Outlook, and are automatically connected to the new server. If the user is not logged in, the next time they do try and log in as long as the old Exchange server is online Outlook will get a pointer from the old server to the new server, and update the local Outlook profile automatically.

Fix : Simply update the name of the Exchange mailbox server in the Outlook profile. Well, for the purposes of other projects, there's potential for our members to send email through our web application, which would involve using the Exchange MTA services, which wouldn't have CALs I'm just trying to make sure I'm licensed, which is becoming increasingly impossible.

It is obvious that Microsoft wants to move everyone to the cloud where people pay per person per month, and can't easliy move to another provider if rates get jacked up or service is in the toilet. It is all profit driven and the customer's paying more to get less. IMHO there's a lot of room for someone to move into the space and take care of the small shops like Spiceworks does.

I havent seen any evidence of this myself beyond Exchange having much better support for large Hosters , while there is Cloud support in this version it just adds an extra option and opens up more options like being able to have local servers for in house staff but external users hosted in the Cloud, both on the same AD domain. At the end of the day as long as you can connect Outlook or any email client , to the server you can get all your data and migrate it to a different host quite easily.

Anyway, I think we are getting a bit off topic here as this isnt really related to Outlook 's compatibility with Exchange :.

The end result is if users set the OOF in Outlook , it only works for internal senders, and not for external. You should encourage your users to use that if you are not going to upgrade outlook. For 6 months we have been using Exchange and Outlook with users and are very pleased. We had been using Exchange
